This role offers the perfect balance of **clinical leadership** and **strategic direction**, ensuring seamless service delivery while meeting key performance and budgetary targets.
You will lead multidisciplinary teams and spearhead initiatives to optimize resources and improve care models—all while fostering a positive, people-centered culture. You will be supported by two yet to be appointed Deputy Heads of Departments under our newly enhanced leadership structure.
Our Emergency Department
Established in 2015, our Emergency Department offers a supportive and dynamic environment for professional growth and clinical excellence. Key features include:
- **48-bed department** with a **77,000** annual patient presentation rate (30% admission rate)
- Team-based care led by **FACEM specialists**
- A **broad case-mix** that includes **17% paediatric cases**, as well as **obstetrics, gynaecology, and stroke services**
**The Position**
Operational Excellence
- Lead the development and implementation of strategic plans aligned with hospital priorities
- Oversee performance targets related to access times, triage outcomes, and patient flow
- Ensure efficient use of resources to optimize patient outcomes and departmental performance
Service Development & Leadership
- Innovate models of care to meet evolving service demands
- Guide the expansion and redesign of emergency services, including process design for our soon to be opened standalone private hospital.
- Collaborate with clinical and operational leaders to drive continuous improvements
Medical Workforce & Education
- Oversee medical staffing, including on-call rosters and consultant leave management
- Ensure junior medical staff receive structured orientation, supervision, and performance evaluations
- Promote a learning culture through mentorship, education programs, and accreditation compliance
Quality, Safety & Risk
- Drive clinical governance, including morbidity and mortality reviews and quality
- Participate in hospital committees to ensure compliance with national safety and quality standards
- Proactively manage clinical risks and promote culture of safety
We are looking for a leader who combines clinical expertise with a passion for service excellence. Essential qualifications and skills include:
- Fellowship with the **Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM)** or equivalent
- Eligibility for specialist registration with the **Medical Board of Australia**
- Substantial experience managing high-acuity patients in complex healthcare settings
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and implement sustainable, patient-centered improvements
- A commitment to clinical education, research, and mentorship
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
