The role
As a data science graduate, you’ll work in collaboration with other Xeros, focusing on learning about our data platforms and practices to help uncover insights, develop models, and deliver value to customers and internal teams.
You’ll undertake data extraction, analysis, and modelling across a range of initiatives, with the support of your team to contribute to data-driven experiences for Xero’s internal and external stakeholders.
You’ll adopt Xero's standards for data excellence and support your team members in exploring new techniques and tools. You’ll learn to contribute to our cross-functional environment by working toward shared objectives, using modern data science and analytics principles.
You’ll learn how to make data-informed decisions that drive meaningful outcomes, and how to communicate data insights in accessible, actionable ways.
The Data Science grad role will see you doing a range of jobs including:
* Work with data – Learn how a variety of teams access, explore, and work with data. Build familiarity with data platforms, tools, and common practices.
* Analyse and model – Learn to contribute to analysis and proof-of-concept model development. Start to apply statistical and machine learning techniques, with support from your team.
* Tell data stories – Use dashboards, reports, and visualisation tools to communicate findings. Begin to present your work to stakeholders in clear and compelling ways.
* Support experimentation – Assist in the design and analysis of experiments to understand customer behaviour, campaign performance, or product usage.
* Improve data quality – Help identify gaps in data and support efforts to improve instrumentation and data coverage.
* Contribute to projects – Participate in collaborative initiatives across product, engineering, or marketing teams, learning to apply data science and analytics in a business context.
* Consider ethics and impact – Begin to explore how to apply ethical considerations in your data work, ensuring outcomes support Xero’s values and customer needs.
* Develop core skills – Build your professional toolkit, including stakeholder communication, problem solving, and project collaboration.
Ideally, you’ll:
* Have a curiosity and willingness to learn about data science, analytics, and data storytelling
* Have familiarity with SQL and basic Python, or other scripting languages
* Understand common statistical or machine learning concepts
* Have had exposure to data visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus
* Be interested in using data to solve problems and improve decision-making
* Have the ability to explain technical ideas to a non-technical audience
If this sounds like you, get in touch. We’d love to hear from you.
