Overview
About the role: Solution Designer - 12 month contract
Reporting into the Digital Technology Leader, the Solution Designer will play a pivotal role in shaping secure, scalable, and resilient solutions on AWS. Acting as the bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, you will clarify requirements, produce detailed integration design documentation aligned to target state architecture and security standards, and ensure that solutions are operable, observable, and cost-effective.
Responsibilities include:
- Gather and translate business and technical requirements into secure, scalable AWS solution designs aligned with enterprise architecture and compliance standards.
- Produce and maintain solution design artefacts, including High-Level Designs, Low-Level Designs, sequence/flow diagrams, API specifications, and architectural decision records.
- Identify and recommend appropriate integration patterns (e.g., event-driven, synchronous REST/GraphQL, messaging, batch) to support interoperability across systems.
- Define and validate non-functional requirements, service level objectives, and capacity assumptions; ensure resilience, observability, monitoring, and cost efficiency are embedded into designs.
- Collaborate with product, security, platform, and delivery teams to ensure solutions are feasible, secure, incrementally deliverable, and operationally ready.
- Promote reuse of approved architectural patterns and components, while contributing to the continuous improvement of design standards, engineering guardrails, and pattern catalogues.
- Assess and communicate technical dependencies, risks, and mitigations to stakeholders; maintain clarity of design decisions throughout the delivery lifecycle.
