About the Role
Black Cat Civil is currently seeking experienced Diesel Fitters for workshop and field service roles based in Darwin.
Successful candidates will be responsible for servicing, maintenance, and repairs of various Caterpillar (CAT) branded mobile plant and heavy equipment supporting major civil construction projects across the Darwin region. This role is a combination of workshop-based work and on-site field service, with some travel required at times.
Key Responsibilities:
– Perform on-site servicing, preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on mobile plant and heavy machinery.
– Maintain and repair Caterpillar (CAT) heavy earthmoving equipment, including excavators, loaders, graders, dozers, rollers, trucks, generators, and light vehicles.
– Conduct fault finding and diagnostic troubleshooting using OEM systems and tools.
– Attend breakdowns and provide field service support.
– Complete major engine, transmission, and component rebuilds.
– Prepare and commission new machines to site specifications.
– Complete service documentation, job cards, and maintenance records.
– Liaise with the Fleet Manager and/or Workshop Supervisor to coordinate parts and repairs.
– Ensure compliance with WHS, safety, and quality standards.
Candidate Skills & Experience:
– Trade qualification in Diesel Fitting / Heavy Vehicle Mechanic / Mobile Plant Technology (Cert III or equivalent).
– Minimum 2+ years' post-trade experience.
– Experience working on heavy earthmoving equipment and civil construction machinery.
– Strong hydraulic and diesel engine experience.
– Proven experience in fault finding, diagnostics, and breakdown response.
– Experience with Caterpillar equipment highly regarded.
– Field service experience highly regarded.
– Air-conditioning (ARC) ticket desirable.
– HR or HC driver's licence highly regarded.
– Ability to work independently and within a team.
– Strong safety mindset and commitment to quality workmanship.
– Willingness to work locally and travel when required.
