Role Overview
We are seeking an adaptable and commercially‐minded Urban Designer to join the Melbourne studio. This role is ideal for a professional who thrives on variety and is looking to take ownership of projects across diverse scales. You will be involved in the end‐to‐end lifecycle of urban projects, from initial visioning and subdivision layouts to final planning documentation. This position goes beyond the drawing board; you will be expected to test the feasibility of your designs in 3D, ensuring that creative visions result in high‐quality, deliverable public realm outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* End‐to‐End Masterplanning: Develop comprehensive masterplanned communities, including lot mix optimization, yield analysis, and public realm design.
* Built Form Testing: Conduct 3D built form testing and feasibility assessments to inform design decisions and project outcomes.
* Report Writing: Author high‐quality, structured reports and planning submissions.
* Visual Storytelling: Create compelling graphic communications, diagrams, and presentations to convey complex urban ideas to stakeholders.
* Project Delivery: Manage time and budgets effectively to ensure projects are delivered within program requirements.
* Client Representation: Participate in client meetings, tenders, and submissions, acting as a professional representative of the firm.
Skills and Experience
* Design Expertise: Proven experience in masterplanning and urban design, with a strong understanding of subdivision layouts and lot yields.
* Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microstation (ideal), GIS, and the Adobe Creative Suite. Familiarity with Rhino or Lumion is highly regarded.
* Exceptional Communication: Strong written skills with the ability to produce clear, professional documentation, alongside high‐level graphic communication skills.
* Technical Literacy: Ability to run technical yield assessments and understand the impact of design on commercial feasibility.
