Job Description
The Taungurung Land and Waters Council is seeking a Director to oversee the development and implementation of a RAP strategy for the management of Taungurung Aboriginal Heritage.
As a Registered Aboriginal Party, the selected candidate will be responsible for creating an inspiring and supportive team environment with open communication.
The role involves coordinating the delivery of legislative responsibilities under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 and working to expand opportunities to activate rights outlined in the Burra Charter and UNDRIP 2007.
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and relevant qualifications in archaeology, heritage adviser, community development, cultural and natural resource management, conservation and land management.
They will also have proven experience in developing and implementing strategic goals for business, departments and teams, as well as knowledge of cultural heritage legislation including the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 and CHMP processes.
A key aspect of this role is working with Traditional Owners, building relationships and ensuring that their interests are represented.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and implement a RAP strategy for the management of Taungurung Aboriginal Heritage.
* Oversee the coordination of the delivery of legislative responsibilities under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006.
* Work with Traditional Owners to build relationships and ensure their interests are represented.
* Streamline systems and policies related to archaeological heritage management.
* Annual budgeting, planning and strategic goal setting for the RAP team.
* Upskill and train staff to ensure a highly skilled cultural heritage team.
* Establish and maintain culturally informed research partnerships and programs in collaboration with other senior leaders.
* Provide specialist technical advice and advocacy in engaging with stakeholders on cultural heritage management matters.
* Identify external funding opportunities relating to the documentation, protection and management of cultural heritage.
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Strong leadership skills.
* Relevant qualifications in archaeology, heritage adviser, community development, cultural and natural resource management, conservation and land management.
* Proven experience in developing and implementing strategic goals for business, departments and teams.
* Knowledge of cultural heritage legislation including the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 and CHMP processes.
* Ability to work with Traditional Owners and build relationships.
