* APS 5 classification level: annual salary $88,834 (plus 15.4% super)
* Full-time hours; 100% office-based position located in Belconnen
* Numerous temporary positions available until April 2027
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is recruiting Census Workforce Supervisors from early July 2026 to April 2027. The Census of Population and Housing is a major national project conducted every five years, informing government decisions. The Census Data Coding (CDC) team processes responses and ensures accurate records. This role offers an opportunity to apply people‐management skills in a dynamic APS environment, supporting a project that benefits all Australian communities.
What you will do
* Supervise and manage a team, communicating progress, issues, and key decisions
* Allocate and monitor workloads to meet Census targets and objectives
* Provide technical and procedural support to Census office staff
* Resolve or escalate complex queries and operational issues
* Undertake performance management and coaching when required
* Coordinate training development and deliver face‐to‐face training sessions
* Monitor operational intelligence and implement process improvements
* Ensure confidentiality and security of Census information and materials
* Manage responses to incidents and crises, including WHS reporting
* Undertake procedural, operational, and administrative duties
What we are looking for
Essential Skills:
* Leadership skills to manage a team of approximately 20 staff (APS 4 and APS 2 levels)
* Strong organisational and time‐management skills to allocate and monitor workloads
* Ability to foster a high‐performance, inclusive team culture
* Good judgement in resolving day‐to‐day operational issues and escalating complex matters
* Effective communication and people skills for team coordination and coaching
* Ability to learn and use office systems quickly
Highly desirable:
* Experience in recruitment and performance management
* Training and coaching experience
* Coordination or workforce scheduling experience
