Site-based role with work from home when off-site Paper chemicals role with training and company car Location: Sydney RETAINED SEARCH / EXCLUSIVE LISTING About our client Our client is part of a global specialty chemicals group focused on water chemistry and water-soluble polymers. The group operates 21 production facilities across Europe, Australasia and the Americas, and offers more than 1,000 products used to treat, recycle and preserve water and support industrial process performance. In pulp and paper, the group supplies process chemicals used on-machine as well as flocculants and coagulants used in effluent treatment. In Australia, our client is moving to a direct service model in the paper mill sector. This role sits within that next stage and will support customers on-site, strengthen day-to-day service capability and help improve mill performance. For the right person, this offers the chance to join at the point of build-out, work close to customer operations, and contribute to how the business establishes its position in this market. The brief provided for this vacancy confirms the role is part of a new direct paper mill service model in Sydney. About the opportunity This is a full-time, site-based role supporting a paper mill operation in Sydney. You will be on-site each day, reviewing production data, speaking with operators, inspecting chemical systems, completing test work and helping the mill respond to process issues. The role is hands-on and suited to someone who wants to build capability over the next 3 to 5 years in paper machine support, technical service and customer site leadership. It is not a sales-led role; the focus is service, optimisation and day-to-day mill support. In this role, you will: Monitor DCS and plant data to identify issues and trends Complete test work, collect samples and record results Inspect pumps, silos and dosing systems and address abnormalities Coordinate on-site activities with operators, supervisors and managers Contribute recommendations that improve machine efficiency and site performance You will work closely with mill personnel and internal stakeholders, provide input into trials, support reporting for reviews, and help the business build trust at site level. Over time, this role can broaden into deeper technical ownership, stronger customer influence and wider involvement in site performance discussions. About you We are looking for someone with paper mill exposure, sound process judgement and the ability to work calmly when production issues need a fast response. You will be comfortable spending time on the machine floor, working in wet and physically demanding conditions, and building working relationships with operators, engineers, supervisors and managers. You will also bring the discipline to collect data, complete test work and turn site observations into useful actions. To be successful in this role, you will ideally have: A bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Science, or a related qualification such as Pulp and Paper Engineering 3 to 5 years' relevant experience, including 2 to 3 years in the paper mill industry Hands-on exposure to paper machine operations and mill environments Experience using DCS or similar process monitoring systems Knowledge of wet-end chemistry and fibre science Understanding of polymers, flocculants, coagulants, biocides, pumps and dosing or storage equipment Experience collecting samples, conducting test work and tabulating results The ability to work with similar KPOs across paper machine support, process monitoring, site coordination and continuous improvement What's on offer This is an opportunity to join at the start of a direct paper mill service model and play a visible part in how that capability is built. You will have a site-based role with scope to learn, contribute and build credibility through technical service work that matters to daily production outcomes. The position offers work from home when not on customer site, a company car, bonus eligibility, time in lieu for after-hours call-outs, and training in test work, data collection and product application. For someone who wants more ownership at site level, this role offers a clear pathway. You will work close to operations, contribute to improvement activity, and engage with both customer stakeholders and internal teams. The role also suits candidates who value long-term industry development, practical problem-solving and being part of a business as it expands its direct presence in the paper sector. How to apply Submit your CV outlining your experience and suitability for the role. Applications are welcome from candidates based locally or interstate. Your application will be handled according to our privacy policy: https://11recruitment.com.au/privacy-policy.
