About The Role
Join a collaborative engineering team within Insurance and Enterprise Technology, focused on delivering secure, scalable backend solutions. Working closely with delivery leaders, you will strengthen engineering practices across people, tools, and workflows. You'll develop Java and OCL backend services supporting strategic initiatives. This role combines hands‐on development with mentoring and design, supporting key business initiatives and continuous improvement across the technology landscape.
What You'll Do
- Design and build backend services using Java and cloud technologies to support enterprise platforms and customer outcomes.
- Analyse system requirements and create technical designs that ensure scalable, reliable solutions across multiple initiatives.
- Apply DevOps practices, including continuous integration and deployment, to improve delivery quality and speed.
- Coach and support engineers to build capability, share knowledge, and encourage consistent engineering standards.
- Contribute to secure development practices through code reviews, testing, and risk awareness in all stages of delivery.
- Perform unit and integration testing to ensure high-quality code and support end‐to‐end delivery outcomes.
What You'll Bring
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Expertise in Java with a background in C++, OO, Shell scripting, Spring, Spring Boot, Spring Security, and Spring Hibernate for building backend applications with a willingness to work on OCL, APIs, microservices and React.
- Experience coaching and mentoring engineers (highly desirable).
- Strong programming skills and proficiency in Java, JavaScript, and SQL and experience with SQL databases.
- Strong AWS knowledge specifically CloudFormation, Lambda, ElastiCache.
- Experience with source code management, configuration management, build tools, API, and testing frameworks.
