Role Overview
Azooa is seeking an experienced
Network Engineer (Communications Network Engineering – Level 3)
to support delivery of
unclassified internet services
under the
EQoL program
, rolling out to approximately
52 Royal Australian Navy vessels
.
This is a
hands-on, delivery-focused role
with regular travel and shipboard activity. You'll be working directly across rollout activities including deployment, configuration, integration support, verification, and fault resolution—adapting network designs across vessel classes while collaborating with Defence stakeholders and delivery teams.

Key Responsibilities
You'll be engaged across the rollout lifecycle, including shipboard deployments and technical delivery support:
1. Support EQoL rollout across Navy platforms
— onboard installation, implementation, and deployment activities
2. Refine and tailor network designs
to suit different ship classes and operational constraints
3. Configure, integrate, and support network devices
during implementation and verification
4. Troubleshoot complex issues
across routing, switching, and transmission protocols
5. Maintain technical documentation
— diagrams, configs, implementation records, as-built updates
6. Contribute to engineering reviews
— technical assessments, design discussions, and solution validation
7. Collaborate daily
with Defence stakeholders, PMs, and engineering teams
8. Comply with Defence security, safety, and operational requirements
at all times
9. Travel as required
to fleet locations to support rollout activities
Mandatory Requirements
To be considered, you
must
have:
* NV1 Security Clearance (current)
* CCNA certification
* Demonstrated experience with RADIUS / AAA services
* Strong hands-on experience in:
* Routing & switching
* Troubleshooting & fault resolution
* Construction White Card
(current
or willingness to obtain prior to commencement
)
* Ability to work within Defence ICT environments and comply with Defence policies and procedures
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
These will help you stand out:
* Degree in ICT / Networking / Communications Engineering (or related)
* CCNP Enterprise
* Fortinet / Fortigate experience or certification (
FCA or higher
)
* Exposure to cybersecurity principles and secure network environments
* Experience with:
* Virtualisation technologies
* SDN / software-defined networking
* Linux or open-source networking tools
* Previous Defence/Navy or ship/platform deployment experience
Travel & Allowances
* Regular travel and onboard vessel work is expected
* A
travel allowance
is being nominated under RFQTS (
up to $20,000 ex GST
)
