Reporting to the Financial Controller, a new opportunity exists for an experienced Payroll Manager to lead and manage the end‐to‐end weekly payroll function, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality and timely payroll processing.
Primary Objectives
* Lead and manage the end‐to‐end weekly payroll function, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality and timely processing.
* Act as the organisation's payroll expert, ensuring compliance with Fair Work requirements, awards, PAYG, superannuation and all statutory obligations.
* Review and approve payroll each cycle, maintaining strong governance, documentation, controls and risk management.
* Oversee timesheet validation, allowances, overtime, leave processing and payroll journal preparation.
* Complete payroll reconciliations, resolve discrepancies promptly and ensure all payments (wages, PAYG, superannuation and on‐costs) are made by due dates.
* Maintain accurate employee payroll records and support Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting and other regulatory requirements.
* Assist with statutory reporting including FBT, audits and payroll‐related information requests.
* Maintain and improve payroll systems, processes, procedures and internal controls, identifying automation and efficiency opportunities.
* Support the optimisation of payroll and HR systems and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance payroll accuracy, service delivery and compliance outcomes.
* Lead, mentor and support the Payroll Officer and provide backup assistance to the Senior Accounts Officer when required.
* Support HR with employee lifecycle administration and related HR administrative tasks (e.g. contracts, employment letters, terminations, etc).
* Provide guidance to operational teams on payroll and finance processes, supporting accurate data flow and cross‐functional collaboration.
* Support continuity of financial operations by providing oversight and assistance to the accounts payable function as needed.
* Create relevant payroll policies and roll‐out training as required.
* Train end users in the HR/Payroll system.
The successful person will need to possess the following
* Tertiary Degree in related field.
* Demonstrated experience in end‐to‐end payroll management in Australia.
* Strong understanding of Awards, Fair Work requirements, PAYG, STP and superannuation.
* Experience with HR and payroll governance, audit processes and compliance.
* Strong analytical and reconciliation skills including high attention to detail and accuracy.
* Ability to interpret legislation and apply it practically.
* Professional, confident communicator who builds effective relationships across HR, Finance and operational teams.
* Solution‐focused, proactive and reliable, with the ability to manage competing priorities and consistently deliver on time.
* Experience implementing and optimising HR/payroll systems.
* Committed to continuous improvement and proficient in key systems, including Microsoft 365.
* Experience in manufacturing, agriculture, logistics or multi‐site environments.
* Experience applying the Manufacturing Award and/or Food, Beverage & Tobacco Award.
* Experience in HR administration support processes (e.g. contract creation, standard letters and templates, terminations).
* Leadership experience with small finance or payroll teams.
