**About the team**
The Legal, Privacy and Internal Audit branch is within the Corporate Services division providing strategies, solutions and services that make our clients' working lives easier and their projects more efficient and effective. Our high-performing legal team works collaboratively across the organisation, partnering to provide critical legal advice and guidance for sensitive and complex legal and regulatory matters. With close to 100 lawyers spread across 5 legal teams, we are one of the largest inhouse government legal departments in NSW.
**The opportunity**
Reporting to a Director Legal, Commercial & Technology, you will be a senior lawyer in the Commercial and Technology team within our Legal branch, providing high quality, solutions focussed advice to support the achievement of organisational outcomes, minimise legal risk and deliver on our commitment to our customers, the people of NSW.
This position will have responsibility for supporting the transition of the NSW bus fleet to zero emissions as part of Transport for NSW's Zero Emission Bus Project. The role will be focussed on advising, drafting, negotiating and amending a complex ecosystem of commercial contracts relating to fleet, technology, construction and goods and services. The role will also support the business in an ongoing capacity after project delivery. Substantial experience is required in all areas of commercial contracting (both front end and back end). Some experience in construction law is desirable but not essential.
**This is a 5 year Fixed Term position.**

**About you**
You are a commercial lawyer with excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to convey technical legal concepts clearly and succinctly and have an advanced ability to think and solve problems.
You will be an experienced drafter, negotiator and communicator working closely with clients to drive commercially focussed outcomes. This will include experience advising on contracting models, public procurement and contract drafting. You will have experience developing and maintaining strong collaborative working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
For this role, we are looking for a professional who:
- Possesses a minimum of five years relevant legal experience and is eligible to hold an unrestricted practicing certificate;
- Has a proven track record in high value, complex commercial, construction or technology contracts either from within an in-house legal function of a large, complex organisation or in private practice providing strategic level advice across a diverse client base including public sector / government;
- Models the highest standards of integrity and professional conduct;
- Has the ability to communicate and influence effectively and inspires confidence in clients as they grapple with high profile and often challenging issues;
- Can lead and manage challenging negotiations, draft complex contracts and has strong business acumen, analytical skills, and the ability to make sound commercial decisions within a legal context;
- Ideally has knowledge of Government procurement frameworks, however experience working within the government sector is not essential; and
- Most importantly, is passionate about making a contribution to the future of NSW.
