About Justice

When you join the Department of Justice, you become part of a people-focused organisation, working to make our community a fairer and safer place to live. We offer many different employment opportunities in locations around Western Australia. You will have a chance to make a real difference to your local communities and to the lives of those you work with.

About The Role

Join us as a Youth Education Advisor and make a real impact in the lives of young people. Banksia Hill Detention Centre is seeking to appoint a dedicated, innovative and hardworking Youth Education Advisor to work collaboratively with our leadership team, teachers and stakeholders. The successful applicant should be an enthusiastic and highly focused individual with effective communication and interpersonal skills. Applicants must be able to form effective working relationships and have a strong interest in supporting teachers and young people in a correctional setting.

In this dynamic role, you'll empower young people who offend by connecting them with high quality, tailored education and vocational training pathways. You will provide expert, up to date advice to justice staff and external stakeholders, helping ensure that compulsory school aged young people meet their education requirements and access meaningful learning opportunities that support their future.

You'll play a key role in communicating the progress and achievements of young people in custody to internal and external stakeholders. Your work will include developing individual education plans, maintaining accurate records and data, and using educational evidence and analysis to boost engagement in learning. Collaboration is central to this role; you'll work closely with agencies, organisations and government departments to expand opportunities and improve outcomes for young people within the justice system.

The successful applicant should be resilient, approachable, reflective and capable of working independently. Being highly organized and able to multi-task in a high-paced environment is essential.

The work environment can at times be unpredictable. It is important that the successful applicant remains calm under pressure, adheres to reporting policies and procedures and has ideally displayed positive outcomes in similar roles. Being culturally responsive and having proven experience working with and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to improve outcomes will be regarded highly.

If you're passionate about transforming educational futures and thrive in a role where every day brings the chance to create positive change, we'd love to hear from you.
