Principal Planner (Major Developments)
1. Part-time 3 year fixed term contract – working 60.8 hours per fortnight
2. Salary in the range of $96,000 – $102,000 pro rata, negotiable depending on experience

About the role:
As a result of a restructure within the Statutory Planning Department we are seeking a highly motivated and suitably experienced Principal Planner to join our team in a part-time (0.8 FTE) capacity to assist with a dramatic increase in significant development enquiries that the City has been receiving for a broad range of development types including commercial, mixed use, apartment buildings and tourism development.
The successful applicant will play a key role in the pre-application, design review and assessment of major development proposals, working closely with Senior Planning staff and in partnership with other City staff.
Applicants must include a statement addressing the below listed essential selection criteria to be considered:
7. Bachelor of Arts in Urban and Regional Planning, or similar qualification.
8. Substantial experience in the assessment of development proposals within the Western Australian planning context, with particular regard to major commercial, apartment, mixed-use or tourism developments (exceptional candidates without experience in the Western Australian planning context may be considered).
9. Highly developed and effective written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
10. Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills.
11. Demonstrated investigation, research, statutory interpretation and strong reporting skills.
The successful applicant must also hold a National Police Clearance not more than six months old and a current “C” class driver’s licence.
Previous experience in Local Government will be highly regarded.
