Blue Mountains City Council has an prospect for a highly experienced
communication practitioner to be a part of its corporate communications and marketing
team.
- The role will help plan and deliver community engagement strategies to support a
number of Council’s key projects for the WestInvest grant program.
- The role involves working with many project teams across Council, as well as external
stakeholders. To succeed in this role you must have excellent project management
skills, stakeholder management skills and customer service. You must also be able to
provide strategic advice in regards to formulating community engagement.
- The position sits within the Council’s Communication & Marketing team to co-ordinate
community engagement activities, with a particular focus on projects.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
The Communications & Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for:
- Working with project managers across the organisation to effectively plan high quality
community engagement strategies.
- Ensuring compliance with corporate communication policies and procedures, and best
practice community engagement, to ensure consistent delivery of community
engagement for Council projects.
- Planning, scheduling and promoting community engagement activities (online, print
and in person) across the various projects.
- Working with project managers to ensure relevant communities/stakeholders are
engaged in a meaningful way, at the appropriate time throughout the lifecycle of a
project, and informed of the decision-making process and outcome.
- Providing coordination, logístical, tracking and reporting services for community
engagement projects to enable efficient and effective consultation and communication
with the community and / or internal stakeholders.
- Helping to build strong and inclusive community relationships on the identified projects.
- Liaising with relevant Council staff, Federal and State Government agencies, and
community groups as required.

**Workplace Health & Safety**
Ensure compliance with WHS obligations and responsibilities as outlined in Councils
policies and procedures and under the relevant WHS legislation. These include but are
not limited to: identifying potentially unsafe situations or work practices and notifying your
Supervisor or Manager (or the Health, Safety Manager/Area Safety Representative);
never performing a task that you believe is dangerous or for which you do not have the
experience, or have not received appropriate instructions and training or where the correct
equipment to carry out the task safely is not available; always work in a safe manner and
in accordance with safety instructions, where applicable; use the work equipment supplied

**COMMUNICATION**
The person requires strong stakeholder management and communication skills as well as
the ability to plan, prioritise and build relationships with staff in other areas of the Council.
They also need to be able to provide expert advice in regards to communication and
community engagement planning within the Council and to external bodies and
stakeholders.
Highly developed interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills are therefore
required, so as to respond to customer service requests, telephone enquiries and
