About The Role The Planning and Policy Officer will be responsible for ensuring new developments maximise resource recovery opportunities through smart, innovative and sustainable design by delivering technical advice to internal and external stakeholders. The officer will also assist in the development and implementation of key waste policies. The Officer Will Work Collaboratively Within The Resource Recovery Team, Closely With The Planning Development And Transport Division And Other Key Stakeholders To Ensure The Environment Supports The City’s Ambitious Waste Strategy Objectives. Your Work Will Directly Contribute To The Sustainable Sydney 2030 Goals, Including Reducing waste generation per capita by 15% by 2030; Diverting 90% of residential waste (35% as source separated recycling) away from landfill by 2030. This position is for a resilient self-starter with advanced problem-solving and communication skills and an in depth understanding of waste management issues and solutions in the built environment. About You The successful candidate will have: Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or extensive demonstrated experience and knowledge in waste and resource recovery issues. Knowledge of waste management in the built environment, with experience in planning, development, architecture, construction, or the waste industry. Sound project management skills, with a proven track record of delivering and evaluating projects within time and budget to achieve measurable results. Advanced communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to provide well-researched advice, draft technical reports, and resolve conflicts with a professional, customer-focused attitude. Analytical thinking, with the ability to integrate complex data and anticipate risks to develop workable, "real-world" solutions. Experience in stakeholder engagement, specifically partnering with residents, businesses, and industry bodies to provide technical guidance. A current NSW Drivers License.
