At Spencer Park Education Support Centre (SPESC), all students make progress and achieve learning outcomes against their individualised learning plans and programs.
We value knowledge and understanding of evidence-based practices for engagement in learning, and behaviour-management strategies such as Antecedent-Behaviour-Consequence (ABC).
An understanding of how to apply appropriate interventions for the management of engagement in learning, working with challenging behaviours and meeting sensory needs, or a willingness to undertake training, is an advantage when working with our students.
SPESC's vision of "Partnerships for Successful Learning" places a strong focus on providing expertise for students in the areas of 'Learning', 'Inclusion' and their 'Wellbeing'.
We are situated alongside Spencer Park Primary School and work closely with them at every opportunity to provide inclusivity within the students' social and learning programmes.
In supporting students to learn to self-regulate emotions and engage in social experiences, SPESC employs Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) expectations and a specialised social-thinking program, "We Thinkers", which supports each student learning to "Be Safe, Be Friendly and to Be Your Best."
SPESC is one of five support centres in Western Australia to offer a specialised learning programme for children in Kindergarten and Pre-primary with Global Developmental Delay (GDD) and Autism (ASD).
Through the Early Intervention Programme students work mostly one-on-one in an explicit-instruction model designed to prepare children for Year 1 at their local mainstream school.

As an Education Assistant – Special Needs at SPESC, you will work with teachers to assist in the education programmes and in promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
The successful applicant will support the teacher in the delivery of planned education programmes to enable students to reach their full potential through the development of their academic, social, emotional and physical skills.
Competency in the use of a range of technology tools, such as computers and electronic devices, is an advantage.
When required, the Education Assistant – Special Needs will provide feedback on education programmes and participate in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of goals.
Suitable applicants should be open-minded, able to adapt to changing situations throughout the day, and comfortable working as part of a classroom team, with a group of students, or individually.
