The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking 2 Prison Supervisors to provide a critical role at Marngoneet Correctional Centre.

About the Business Unit

Marngoneet Correctional Centre and Karreenga Annex is a medium security facility that houses a mix of sentenced and remand men and is located 6km north-west of Lara, 20km from the centre of Geelong and about 70km from Melbourne. The role of the facility is to contain men in custody safely, securely and humanely, focusing on the individual needs of the men with the aim of providing a successful transition back into the community or on their continued journey through the prison system. The facility has a strong focus on achieving positive outcomes and provides a range of engaged services. Our highly skilled workforce provides supervision and case management and are dedicated to enhancing opportunities to strengthen prisoner pathways.

About the Role

The Prison Supervisor manages the day-to-day functional needs of accommodation and/or security areas. They will be responsible for managing a team of custodial and non-custodial officers delivering a range of correctional services for which they will require solid people management skills. The role requires leadership, maturity, sound judgement, and confidence in decision making, with developed capabilities to coach, mentor and motivate staff. With highly developed communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills the Prison Supervisor leads and manages staff to achieve program and service outcomes in a multidisciplinary team and rehabilitative environment.

Some of your duties will include:

- Contribute to creating and sustaining a positive and healthy workforce culture built on solid values, professional excellence, and teamwork, including being accountable for your continued professional development.
- Lead by example and demonstrate in your day-to-day interactions each of the DJCS values and behaviours and be accountable for your actions.
- Incorporate safe work practices in all workplace activities and foster an environment that encourages the development of a safe and healthy workplace.
- Maintain a healthy and safe workplace by acting immediately upon the receipt of any bullying, discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment, or inappropriate behaviour complaint, report, or observation.
- Lead and manage staff to ensure the safety and security of prisoners, staff, and visitors. This includes maintenance of the integrity of both the external and internal security of the facility, appropriate levels of surveillance and interaction within the facility, and monitoring staff for compliance with safety procedures.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in a correctional environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with staff, prisoners, and other service providers in the delivery of an integrated, whole of Justice approach to reducing re-offending.
- Computer literate with a working knowledge of the full range of Microsoft Windows and MS Office application suite software.

Qualifications/requirements

- Prior to commencement you will be required to obtain a current Statement of Attainment for the First Aid unit HLTAIDO11 Provide First Aid.
- A full and current Victorian driver's licence or a minimum P2 driver's licence.
- Completion of the Prison Officer Pre-service Training or a willingness to undertake and complete the provided Prison Officer Pre-Service Training is required.
- Certificate III in Correctional Practice (Custodial) or similar is desirable.
- Certificate IV Training and Assessment is desirable.
