About the Role:
Are you an experienced hospital pharmacist looking to join an intensive care team that values a team-based approach? Canberra Health Services (CHS) is seeking a skilled and forward-thinking pharmacist to join our dynamic clinical pharmacy team on site at the newly built intensive care unit at The Canberra Hospital.
This is a fantastic prospect to work in a progressive department that values innovation, collaboration, and professional growth—while contributing directly to high-quality, patient-centred care. Whether you're looking to further develop your ICU experience or your hospital clinical skills in an intensive care area, this is your chance to make a meaningful impact in patient care while continuing to grow professionally.
Why join us?
Expanded Cutting-edge Facilities: The ACT Government has expanded the Canberra Hospital to deliver more emergency, surgical and critical care capacity for the ACT and surrounding region. The centrepiece of this project is the 43,000sqm Critical Services Building that has transformed the Canberra Hospital campus to meet the growing health needs of our community. The 36-bed critical care unit treats over 2,500 patients a year from Canberra and the surrounding NSW area.
Professional Development: Access training and development resources to build your clinical skills and support your progression as a hospital pharmacist. The department runs a successful AdPha Accredited Residency Training Program, an excellent intern training program and is accredited for several Registrar Training Residency Programs, including Critical Care. At CHS you will get the opportunity to work alongside other experienced ICU pharmacists to develop and learn from each other.
Innovative Practice: Be part of a department that leads the way in enhancing scope of practice and different ways of working, such as credentialed accuracy checking technicians, Partnered Pharmacist Medication Charting and remote clinical pharmacy services implemented to enhance our onsite services. A strong, team-first workplace where pharmacists at all levels are welcomed, supported, and given meaningful responsibility. You will join regular multidisciplinary ward rounds where pharmacists’ clinical observations and recommendations are actively sought and discussed alongside intensivists, nurses, and allied health.
What you will gain:
- Opportunities to innovate, mentor, and shape the future of pharmacy practice.
- Opportunities to supervise and mentor junior staff, and contribute to departmental education and research
- Experience with a team-oriented team culture that supports learning, innovation, and excellence.
- Genuine job satisfaction through meaningful clinical work and being part of a department that values your contribution.
- A rewarding role where your interventions measurably improve patient care and safety.
- Hands-on experience with advanced ICU therapeutics, monitoring technologies, and complex medication regimens.
- Clear professional mentorship with personalised development plans and competency mapping. Tangible portfolio evidence for future specialist pharmacy applications.
