Overview Work Type: Ongoing - Full-time Salary: Salary not specified Grade: Leading Teacher - Range 3 Occupation: Leading teacher Location: Hume - Benalla Reference: 1516775 Selection Criteria SC1 Demonstrated expert knowledge of the relevant curriculum. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage the implementation of school priorities, and the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills across the curriculum. SC2 Demonstrated ability to lead the planning and implementation of high impact teaching strategies that respond to student learning needs. Demonstrated ability to support teachers to evaluate the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth. SC3 Demonstrated exemplary ability to monitor and assess student learning at a class, cohort or whole-school level and use this data to lead improvement initiatives. Demonstrated ability to support others in using data to inform teaching practice and to provide feedback on student learning growth and achievement to students and parents. SC4 Demonstrated exemplary interpersonal and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to lead collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, parents and the broader school community focused on student learning, agency, wellbeing and engagement. SC5 Demonstrated ability to model behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values and support colleagues to adopt these behaviours and attitudes. Demonstrated ability to reflect upon their own, others and whole-school practice and contribute to the provision of whole-school professional learning. Role The Leading Teacher ¿ Assessment, Data and School Improvement leads whole-school approaches to assessment, data analysis, and staff mentoring. The role works closely with the Principal Team, Assistant Principals, and Learning Specialists to ensure evidence informs instructional practice and improvement priorities. A critical focus of the role is the development and oversight of a whole-school assessment and data schedule that:
* Tracks student growth
* Identifies trends and patterns
* Informs improvement priorities
* Guides targeted intervention
* Measures initiative impact
Leadership uses this evidence to celebrate success, address gaps, and ensure initiatives such as literacy intervention and attendance strategies are purposeful and effective. The role also strengthens partnerships with feeder schools to support data sharing and successful student transitions so that every learner arrives known and supported. Responsibilities Key Responsibilities
* Lead analysis of whole-school achievement, growth, engagement, attendance, and wellbeing data
* Develop and manage the whole-school assessment and data schedule
* Build staff data literacy and lead structured data conversations
* Develop dashboards and reports for leadership and teams
* Identify priority cohorts and monitor targeted strategies
* Strengthen consistent assessment and moderation practices
* Mentor and coach teachers to improve instructional practice
* Support early career and developing teachers through structured mentoring
* Contribute to AIP and School Strategic Plan implementation
* Monitor initiative impact and adjust based on evidence
* Build feeder school partnerships to strengthen transition data sharing
Who May Apply Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position. * The person must have provisional or full registration approved by the Victorian Institute of Teaching; and
* if the person completed an Australian postgraduate level initial teaching program or course of study on or after 1 January 2024, they must demonstrate that they have satisfactorily completed a postgraduate level accredited initial teacher education program that has been accredited by an Australian State or Territory Teacher Regulatory Authority as satisfying the requirements of the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership 'Accreditation of initial teacher education programs in Australia: Standards and Procedures'; and
* a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education (ITE) program after 1 July 2016 must also demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements (this condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian ITE program completed by the person).

Location Profile Benalla P-12 College Benalla P-12 College is located in the Rural City of Benalla which is ideally located close to the Victorian snowfields and the major centres of Wangaratta and Shepparton. The town is surrounded by quality wineries, National Parks, bushwalking trails aplenty, fishing and water skiing on the beautiful Lake Nillahcootie in your backyard, and the Murray River only an hour away. Melbourne is easily reached in two hours along the Hume Freeway and the Melbourne to Wodonga railway line also runs through the city. Benalla has that big country town feeling that makes for a relaxing family lifestyle in a supportive, welcoming community. Benalla P-12 College was established in January 2013 as a result of the merger of all four government schools in Benalla. In 2024 major capital works were completed, which endowed the secondary college with a new STEAM building, administration building and state of the art food technology teaching space.
