We are seeking to establish a pool of English Teachers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Northam Senior High School (SHS) stands on the bank of the Avon River and has a proud and rich history of providing a comprehensive curriculum to students in Years 7-12 from the Northam and surrounding Wheatbelt districts students. With over 650 students, we are the largest school in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia.

The Role

Northam SHS is seeking highly motivated, English teachers committed to maximising the progress of all students.

We cater for a diverse range of students and are seeking to appoint staff that are student and relationship focused and who possess engaging teaching, learning and assessment practices. You will be a reflective practitioner who works collaboratively within your curriculum area and across the school community.

Northam SHS is a school where everyone matters and as a teacher at our school, you will have the belief that every student can achieve individual progress. Your practice will be based on unconditional positive regard for students, along with an understanding of the strategies of explicit teaching, cooperative learning, differentiated instruction and inquiry learning. Suitable applicants should work collaboratively within the English team and broader school setting to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of students. They should also incorporate current and emerging technologies to best meet the needs of our students.

Ideally, suitable applicants should have a strong professional knowledge and understanding of the Year 7–12 Western Australian English Curriculum. Experience in the delivery of Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) courses, including Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) courses, General courses, and Foundation courses, is well regarded, or preferably be a teacher with primary literacy intervention experience. Suitable applicants should ideally hold a firm belief that all students can reach their potential to achieve their highest educational outcomes. They should also have a range of effective teaching and learning strategies to foster inclusivity and harness growth mindsets.

Mobility appointments for permanent metropolitan and south west teachers

Eligible permanent teachers who hold a substantive teaching position in a North or South Education Region school, or a South West Education Region school* may elect to undertake this role as a 3-year mobility appointment, with a right of return to their substantive position. At the cessation of the 3-year mobility appointment, teachers can elect to return to their substantive role, or transfer permanently into this school.

hold an eligible teacher qualification and registration. be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment. More information about employment eligibility can be found on our website. apply for a WA Working with Children Check before you start; and consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.
