Originally named The Wayside Foundation, The Ted Noffs Foundation was established in 1970 by the Australian humanitarian, Reverend Ted Noffs, who's work championed social justice, mental health support, and innovative youth services. Today, the Foundation continues his legacy, delivering frontline services and community support across NSW, ACT & QLD. With over 200 staff and 350 volunteers, we remain deeply committed to helping young people affected by issues related to drugs, crime, and mental health.
The Role
We are looking for a dedicated Adolescent and Family Counsellor (AFC) to join our new service in Doonan, QLD, on a 12-month contract. Working closely with marginalised young people, the AFC will help to deliver this early intervention program aimed at diverting youth from their high-risk environments. The program is intended to help youth demonstrating high-risk behaviours, such as substance abuse, aggression or truancy, and their family by providing a short stay (Reset), as well as mentoring and therapeutic supports for a period pre and post stay.
Responsibilities
* Conducting and reviewing assessments and case treatment plans.
* Providing individual and group counselling as required.
* Providing family counselling and other relationship counselling as required.
* Providing counselling and casework support for young people before, during and after the Resets. This could include potential after-hours or weekend work during the scheduled Reset.
* Developing and maintaining relationships with services, community organisations and stakeholders.
* Liaising effectively with referrers, other service providers and families.
* Creating and managing effective pathways for clients to access the service.
* Arranging community networking for a young person to encourage positive interactions in a safe and supportive environment.
* Maintaining client records, statistical records and providing reports as required.
* Completing follow up assessments with clients to monitor their progress.
* Travelling within the catchment areas providing AOD counselling services.
* Assisting and mentoring youth workers to implement care plans during Resets.
Qualifications
* Relevant tertiary qualifications e.g. psychology, counselling, social work.
* Experience and demonstrated ability to work with young people between the ages of 12-25yo.
* Ability to work effectively both as a team member and as a practitioner with minimal supervision.
* Strong personal and interpersonal boundaries.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Commitment to the principles of harm minimisation and to the aims of the Ted Noffs Foundation.
* Must hold and maintain a cleared QLD Blue Card and a current DriverLicense (provisional license minimum).
* Experience in the drug and alcohol sector.
* Lived or employment experience in a therapeutic community.
* Registration or eligible for membership with AHPRAor other professional association.
* Minimum 2 years direct counselling experience.
