The Role
Tassal's Rookwood Hatchery in Ranelagh operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year as a critical component of Tasmania's salmon industry. Our state-of-the-art facility uses recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) to nurture young salmon through their early life stages in a precisely controlled environment. As Maintenance Manager, you'll play a hands-on leadership role in ensuring all mechanical, electrical and RAS equipment operates at peak efficiency to maintain optimal water quality and fish health around the clock.
Responsibilities
* Lead preventative and breakdown maintenance for all hatchery systems including RAS technology, pumps, filters and life support systems.
* Develop and implement maintenance strategies to maximize uptime of critical aquaculture equipment.
* Manage a small team across rotating shifts in our 24/7 operational environment.
* Oversee contractors and ensure compliance with strict biosecurity protocols.
* Maintain accurate records of equipment performance and maintenance activities.
* Respond rapidly to equipment failures, including after-hours call-outs when required.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability and efficiency.
* Ensure all work complies with our Zero Harm 'can do - safely' workplace culture.
Role Requirements
* A trade qualification in Electrical, Mechanical or Maintenance Engineering (preferred).
* Extensive experience in industrial maintenance (manufacturing/processing background preferred).
* Experience with recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) highly regarded.
* Strong leadership skills with ability to mentor a technical team.
* Excellent problem-solving skills for time-critical equipment failures.
* Understanding of water treatment systems and associated equipment.
* Ability to interpret technical drawings and equipment manuals.
* Willingness to participate in on-call roster for after-hours support.
* Current rights to work in Australia.
* Successful completion of pre-employment medical and drug screening.
