Carpentry & Project Lead - Accessible Home Modifications
About Equisent Group
Equisent Group operates Equal Living (NDIS and Aged Care Provider) and a specialized construction division delivering home modifications for NDIS participants and aged care clients. We transform homes to enable independence - bathroom accessibility upgrades, ramp installations, doorway widening, and comprehensive accessibility renovations.
We need a skilled carpenter who can wear two hats: hands-on tradesperson executing high-quality work AND client-facing project lead who manages bathroom modification projects from consultation through completion.
You'll work directly with NDIS participants, elderly clients, and their families - people who are often stressed, uncertain, and need someone who combines technical expertise with genuine care and clear communication.
Typical project scope:
* Accessible bathroom renovations (stepless showers, grab rails, raised toilets, widened doorways)
* Minor structural modifications (wall removal, reinforcement, waterproofing)
* Compliance with BCA accessibility standards and NDIS/aged care specifications
* Project values: $20,000-$70,000 per bathroom renovation
Volume: 2-4 active projects concurrently, 15-25 projects annually
Trade Qualifications & Experience
* Carpentry trade qualification (Certificate III in Carpentry or equivalent)
* Minimum 3 years hands-on carpentry experience
* Demonstrated bathroom renovation experience
* Working knowledge of Building Code of Australia (BCA) accessibility provisions (AS1428.1)
* Understanding of waterproofing requirements and wet area construction
Highly Regarded:
* Working towards Builder's license (Domestic Builder - Limited or Unlimited)
* Plumbing or tiling qualifications/experience (even if not licensed)
* Previous site supervisor, leading hand, or project management role
* Experience with NDIS home modifications or aged care accessibility upgrades
Client-Facing Skills
* Communication clarity
* Consultative approach
* Trust building
* Conflict resolution
Project Management Fundamentals
* Develop realistic project timelines (2-4 weeks typical bathroom modification)
* Coordinate subcontractor scheduling (plumbers, electricians, tilers, painters)
* Manage material procurement and job costing to maintain margin targets
* Conduct pre-start site assessments and quote/scope validation
* Identify variations early and secure client approval before proceeding
* Maintain clean, safe worksites (critical when clients remain living in home during renovation)
