At Life Without Barriers, we are seeking a dedicated Residential Support Worker to join our team. This role is an opportunity to make a positive and meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people who have experienced childhood trauma, abuse, or neglect.
About the Role
As a Residential Support Worker, your primary responsibility will be to create a secure and nurturing home environment for these young individuals. This involves delivering personalised support and guidance, fostering the development of independent life skills, assisting with emotional regulation, and providing opportunities for re-engagement in education and community activities.
You will work closely with young people from diverse backgrounds, including Indigenous and other cultural communities. Your experience working with young people who have experienced significant trauma and neglect, including the management of behaviours of concern, is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
* Promote and assist young people to achieve goals identified in Individual Case Plans
* Assist young people to develop independence and build community networks
* Support the young person's interests
* Establish a rapport and collaborate effectively with young people to achieve positive outcomes
* Manage behavioural escalations and assist the young person to co-regulate emotionally
* Domestic duties and supporting the young person to learn how to look after themselves, eg cooking, housework, laundry
* Communicate with the care team and report incidents promptly and accurately
* Medication administration (when required)
* Maintenance of progress notes and record keeping
Requirements:
* Certificate IV in Youth Work, Mental Health, or relevant qualification (or willing to obtain)
* Experience working with young people who have experienced significant trauma and neglect, including the management of behaviours of concern
* Ability to demonstrate highly effective interpersonal skills with young people and stakeholders
* Demonstrate confidentiality and have strong understanding of professional boundaries
* Experience working with young people from indigenous or other cultural backgrounds
* A current Provide First Aid Certificate
* A current Drivers Licence
