Due to an increased demand within our business, SYPAQ are seekinga Senior Gen Developer for an opportunity with a Federal Government Department. This is a long-term contract with the initial contract up to April 2027 plus 2*12 month extensions. The opportunity offers a potential start in April 2026. The role can be based in QLD, ACT, VIC, NSW or SA, hybrid options will be considered.
Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Gen Developer to lead software development projects and provide technical leadership to their teams. This role will manage software planning, development, and construction activities, and evaluate and resolve complex issues within the development and production environments. The role will be responsible for the quality and functionality of software, ensuring adherence to relevant standards, guidelines, and methods for system development.
In this role you will lead the delivery of flexible, quality modern customer service, work under the broad direction of senior staff to deliver results, make ethical, evidence-based decisions using sound judgment and develop and manage stakeholder relationships.
Key duties and responsibilities
* lead and create software and technical designs for the realisation of highly complex development solutions
* develop strategy to ensure high quality code and long-term maintenance of a product's code base
* provide specialist technical advice on software development and maintenance
* lead the release and ensure go-live production support and maintenance for the team's developments
* lead analysis, design, software development, prototyping, unit testing and maintenance activities
* review and undertake high-level analysis of technical requirements to support project evaluation with proposed solutions
* ensure compliance with endorsed software development methodologies
* investigate and resolve highly complex ICT issues
* lead a positive risk management culture
* engage and manage stakeholder relationships and partner with other agencies and service providers to build service delivery capability
Required Skills & Experience
* Minimum of 4 years of experience with Gen development.
* IT degree and/or formal GEN training
* Experience with Cuba or similar systems
* Experience writing and debugging COBOL
* Experience with development of SOAP services, RESTful APIs and MQ
Experience in Government Departments would be highly regarded. The successful applicant must be an Australian Citizen with an ability to obtain baseline clearance.
