Job Title: Special Education Support Specialist
About the Role:
As a Special Education Support Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting children and young people with additional needs. This includes disability, sensory impairment, and complex health needs. Your primary responsibility will be to work collaboratively with educators and families to establish optimal learning environments, differentiated teaching practices, and appropriate supports and adjustments to ensure each child or young person is engaged and participating in their preschool or school environment.
A key aspect of this role is promoting an inclusive environment that supports engagement and best outcomes for all children and young people. You will provide support to preschools and schools to implement the Disability Standards for Education to meet their legal obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) for children and young people with additional needs.
You will work closely with a range of key partners to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people. This includes collaborating with families, preschools, schools, and local education teams, internal agencies, and external agencies to leverage expertise and knowledge from each stakeholder to support children and young people with additional needs achieve optimal outcomes.
The Student Support Services team works in partnership with schools, preschools, and families to provide proactive, targeted, and intensive intervention services to support the additional needs of learners. We value and prioritize Aboriginal ways of knowing, doing, and being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with educators and families to establish optimal learning environments and support strategies for children and young people with additional needs.
- Provide training and coaching to educators on inclusive practices and support strategies to promote engagement and participation of children and young people with additional needs.
- Develop and implement individualized support plans to meet the unique needs of each child or young person.
- Collaborate with schools and preschools to develop and implement policies and procedures to support children and young people with additional needs.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Essential: Current full teacher registration
- Desirable: Tertiary qualification in special or inclusive education.
Benefits:
- Salary: $135,204 per annum (1.0 FTE) + superannuation (11.5%)
Working Arrangements:
- Multiple full-time contract roles available.
This role operates under conditions similar to those of the Public Sector Act 2009 (PS Act).
