Primary objective
The Secondary Pathways Coordinator primarily oversees the effective engagement of secondary students and teachers. The role
collaborates with the secondary teaching team to facilitate smooth and successful student transitions from secondary education to various
work opportunities and alternative pathways.
Context statement
Arlparra School consists of 5 sites in the Utopia homelands, 250 kilometres northeast of Alice Springs, providing education to students
from preschool to senior school and a 0 to 5 Families as First Teachers (FaFT) program for children and their families. It has a current
enrolment of approximately 240 students, most of whom are Indigenous. The school aims to achieve optimum education outcomes for
learners and input to the development and achievement of key strategic and operational goals.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Collaborate with the secondary teaching team to deliver a pathway-aligned curriculum including opportunities for community-based
learning.
2. Lead the integration of work-ready skills and cultural knowledge into the curriculum to enhance student preparedness and
engagement.
3. Actively contribute to whole-school planning and strategic initiatives aimed at continuous improvement and educational excellence.
4. Support and coordinate orientation programs to ensure a smooth transition for students moving from primary to secondary school.
5. Guide and assist students in preparing for successful completion of the NT Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET) or alternative
pathways such as vocational education and training (VET) and school-based apprenticeships.
6. Identify and develop opportunities for VET, school-based apprenticeships, and work experience placements to expand student career
pathways.

Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain meaningful relationships with industry partners to boost student engagement and
attendance.
2. Proven skill in building positive, supportive relationships with secondary level students and managing student behaviour effectively
and with cultural sensitivity.
3. Proven experience in living and teaching effectively within remote and culturally diverse community environments.
1. Sound knowledge and application of Department of Education policies and procedures.
2. Sound knowledge of contemporary educational research relating to explicit instruction and system wide priorities.
3. Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and align a small teaching team.
4. Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders and sustain positive relationships within and beyond
the school community, fostering a culture of high expectations and inclusion.
8. Demonstrated high-level written and oral communication skills with the ability to apply negotiation and conflict resolution strategies
effectively.
