About the role
The ProtoSpace Technical Support Assistant is responsible for commissioning, development, and maintenance of technical equipment within the UTS ProtoSpace. The TSA must be able to apply their extensive knowledge of Additive Manufacturing (AM) while also aiding in the development of new digital support systems for the ProtoSpace equipment and team.
The TSA is expected to directly support the ProtoSpace technical team to ensure best-practice manufacturing processes are followed for all items of ProtoSpace equipment. The TSA is also responsible for maintenance of equipment to ensure they meet the ongoing requirements of all facility users.
The TSA will provide ongoing specialised support for teaching, research, and industry partnership activities within the ProtoSpace. The TSA is also expected to support commercially focused research projects including consultancy work, which are critical for driving FEIT's external partnerships strategy.
The TSA is accountable for implementing and ensuring adherence to the University's environmental health and safety policies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff, students, visitors and industry partners.
In this role, you will:
* Train staff and users in the application and use of new and existing equipment, evaluate and develop training methods and recommend improvements in laboratory processes.
* Contribute to the design and specifications for designs for new plant items through direct procurement, and co-ordinating the commissioning of new or peripheral equipment, ensuring compliance with specifications
* Develop maintenance processes for the range of complex and specialised engineering equipment within ProtoSpace, ensuring all linked projects are uninterrupted.
* Mentor other technical staff in the application and use of new and existing equipment, evaluate and develop training methods and recommend improvements in laboratory equipment and spaces
* Assist with external consultancy function as required, which may include liaising with external clients regarding consultancy projects, advising on costing and preparing quotations
* Assist in conducting risk assessments on all plant and laboratory procedures and organising annual laboratory inspections

* Demonstrated ability to initiate, plan, prioritise, and schedule work within required timeframes.
* Ability to train staff and students in the application and use of equipment, and to evaluate methods and experiments, including those involving new technologies.
* Ability to work across structural boundaries, assist in the development of new operating procedures, and work with engineering drawings and rough sketches while providing advice on good design practices.
Remuneration & Benefits
Base Salary Range: $83,906 - $95,989 pa (HEW 5)
This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.
