Your opportunity:
The main responsibilities of this role focus on coding, testing and deploying key application programs. You will be heavily responsible in the development of application code that adheres to the technical design and to generic development guidelines (tools, techniques, documentation, source control etc.). You will be required to show a willingness to own development/testing tasks assigned as part of project work and to be able to work in fast paced, project focused delivery team
You'll make impact by:
* Thoroughly unit testing application code prior to migration to staging environments for system and acceptance testing phases
* Providing tier 2 and 3 support to Application Support teams (approximately 30% effort), including liaising with business users to expedite problem resolution
* Maintaining and updating critical operational support documentation as part of project deliverables
* Gaining exposure to other applications, including rotating through different system development areas on a periodic basis
* Engaging with business and/or systems analysts in the project team, senior developers, operational group team leaders, and IT Application Support team members and manager
* Demonstrating the ability to balance project and escalated support tasks, keeping all parties informed of any impacts to the timeline
* Taking reasonable care of personal safety and wellbeing at work, and ensuring not to adversely affect the safety and wellbeing of others
What you'll bring:
* Tertiary qualification in a technical based bachelor's degree or related discipline (Engineering, Computer Science or IS)
* Minimum 1 year experience in software development including build, source control, unit testing and release management.
* Knowledge in systems development methodology and data modelling principles.
* Up to 1 year industrial experience with J2SE including one or more of the following: Java, JMS, XML, XSLT, Web Services (Axis ideal), XPATH/XQUERY and SQL (ideally Oracle).
* You possess strong verbal and written skills, and also demonstrate a willingness to learn business processes and how they are implemented in systems.
* Ability to operate autonomously and being self-aware of business priorities and deadlines.
* Desirable skills and Experiences:
* Experience with billing, customer care or ordering/fulfilment systems in the telecommunications industry
* Knowledge of project methodologies
* Experience with Unix/Linux environment
* Experience in Workflow Engines (BPEL, BPMN, etc)
