This is a senior commercial role within an established head contractor delivering education, residential, health and public sector projects across Newcastle and the Hunter. The Commercial Manager is responsible for the commercial performance of assigned projects and operates as the commercial lead within the project team.
You will manage the full commercial lifecycle, from early procurement through to final account, providing clear commercial direction, governance and leadership across delivery teams.
Key responsibilities
* Commercial leadership of head contract and subcontract administration
* Development and execution of procurement strategies, trade packaging and contract awards
* Management of variations, claims, EOTs, Security of Payment and contractual correspondence
* Active identification and management of commercial risk and opportunity
* Cost control, cash flow forecasting and monthly commercial reporting
* Commercial input into programme, procurement sequencing and delivery methodology
* Leadership and mentoring of Senior Contracts Administrators and Contract Administrators
* Interface with project leadership on commercial strategy, dispute avoidance and resolution
* Management of subcontract close out, final accounts and project commercial handover
Experience and capability
* Proven experience operating as a Commercial Manager or Senior Contracts Manager within a head contractor environment
* Strong exposure to education, health or government funded projects
* Deep understanding of Australian construction contracts and subcontracting structures
* Commercially decisive, with the ability to operate autonomously within established governance
* Degree qualified in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
