Educational Leader – Staff Mentoring and Development
2026 school year | 0.8 – 1.0 FTE contract | Possibility of extension or permanency
Peregrine is a small, independent K–10 school in the Huon Valley with a strong sense of community and a belief that learning is shaped through strong relationships, shared responsibility, and purposeful challenge. We believe students learn best when they are known well, supported to think deeply, and invited to contribute meaningfully to their community.
The Position
We are seeking an experienced senior educator to join our leadership team for an impact-focused role. This position exists to provide relational support to staff, strengthen inclusive practice across the school, and help consolidate high-quality teaching and learning.
Working in close partnership with other school leaders, the role is grounded in mentoring, coaching, and professional dialogue. It will suit a leader who believes improvement happens through trust, clarity, and shared professional judgement.
This role will suit educators who enjoy working closely with others, thinking deeply about practice, and contributing to a school community that is always learning and evolving.
Option for extension of contract or permanency may be available.
Role Focus
The Educational Leader will play a key role in supporting teachers to:
* strengthen inclusive and trauma-informed practice
* use NCCD processes to improve teaching clarity and responsiveness (not just documentation)
* balance intellectual rigour, wellbeing, and belonging as interdependent priorities
* develop shared language and judgement around effective practice
Educational stance
At Peregrine, we believe learning and improvement are most powerful when people experience agency, belonging, and opportunities to develop their capabilities. We see schools as complex human systems, where responsibility is shared, perspectives are valued, and decisions are made close to practice in ways that strengthen motivation, engagement, and growth.
Our approach is informed by contemporary research in learning sciences, inclusive education, relational practice, and adaptive leadership. We prioritise ways of working that support agency, capability, and strong relationships in the everyday life of the school for students and our staff.
How we lead improvement at Peregrine
Peregrine is seeking a leader who understands school improvement as relational, professional work. The role involves sustained collaboration with teachers in classrooms, engaging with complexity, and supporting growth through shared reflection and thoughtful challenge.
We value improvement grounded in daily teaching and learning, informed by evidence, and responsive to the specific needs of children and staff in our community. Decisions are shaped by close knowledge of students, staff, and context, rather than prescribed solutions applied at a distance.
Peregrine is actively shaping a strategic direction that asks what young people will need to thrive as learners, thinkers, and contributors in an uncertain future. This role will contribute directly to that work, offering practical insight and professional leadership as the direction takes form.
