Operations Performance (Scientist or Engineer)

Working at TasWater isn't just a job; it's an opportunity to deliver social, environmental, and economic benefits for Tasmania today and tomorrow.

Our talented workforce of over 920 employees keeps Tasmania thriving by providing exceptional water and sewerage services to over 460,000 customers every day.

We have a bold and ambitious future, inspired by our vision to unlock water's full potential, centred on customers, communities, people, partners, environment, and our collective water future.

Over the coming 5 years we're investing $1.2 billion to ensure a safe and secure water future for a growing Tasmania, and to make great steps toward net zero carbon emissions and zero waste. Visit our website or YouTube channel to learn more.

The Role

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity for a developing engineer or operations specialist ready to step into a role with real responsibility and visible impact. You'll work alongside experienced operational and environmental teams to help keep wastewater treatment systems performing at their best across Northern Tasmania, all the while building your capability and experience.

You'll have the chance to get close to operations, learn how complex systems run day to day, and apply your engineering skills to practical challenges that affect performance, safety and compliance.

In this role, you will:

* Support the improvement of water treatment processes, identifying opportunities to improve reliability, quality and efficiency.
* Work closely with Operations and Environmental teams, building strong relationships and learning how to influence outcomes through clear, practical communication.
* Apply your engineering knowledge to investigate issues, understand root causes and contribute to workable, on‐site solutions.
* Take part in continuous improvement projects, trials of new technologies and early planning for future upgrades.
* Develop clear, well‐structured reports and documentation that support good decisions, compliance and consistent ways of working.
* Build safe work habits and contribute positively to a team culture that values collaboration, learning and improvement.

What we're looking for

If you might be working in the Environmental Sector, as a Chemist, Process Engineer or Water Quality Specialist, we'd like to hear from you. What's really important is that you thrive on solving problems and making a real impact. Your ability to communicate and collaborate will be just as important as your technical expertise. If you enjoy a role with variety, spending time out in the field and interacting with people from across the business, then this may be the role for you.

To thrive in this role, you will bring:

* A qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or similar — or hands‐on experience that's given you a solid grounding in how complex systems operate.
* Strong people and communication skills, with the confidence to explain ideas clearly, learn from others, and positively influence outcomes when working with a wide range of stakeholders.
* The ability to read and interpret technical information such as drawings, plans and specifications, supported by good general computer literacy and a willingness to learn new systems.
* A practical, solutions‐focused mindset — you enjoy figuring things out, weighing up options, and balancing cost, time and scope to achieve sensible, real‐world outcomes.
* A current C Class driver's licence, giving you the flexibility to get out on site and see your work in action.

Benefits

* Inclusion, flexibility and belonging – recognised by WORK180 as an employer of choice for women, internal belonging networks and events, commitment to diversity in all forms.
* 18 weeks parental leave with full superannuation for all new parents regardless of tenure.
* Career growth and development – including structured leadership development programs and emerging professional networks.
* Wellbeing benefits – EAP, corporate health partnerships, salary packaging/novated leasing options.
* Relocation assistance and support.

The Details

The role offers a salary range of $103,701.29 - $109,462.48 per annum (inclusive of superannuation), negotiable based on experience.

This role is based in either Launceston or Devonport.
