Treatment Foster Care Australia for Children (TFCA) is an evidence-based treatment program that supports and treats children with significant behavioral challenges. TFCA provides a high level of support and intervention to children and young people in a more natural setting - the home of an approved Foster Carer. The TFCA model contains several components including training and support for the foster carer/s, family therapy for the child young person's parent/aftercare placement, skills training for the child or young person, education support. and case management and consultation.
An individualised treatment plan is developed for each child or young person in the program with goals that focus on improving the child's emotional and behavioral functioning; promoting positive educational outcomes; and building strong family relationships. A child's goals are met through close supervision, fair and consistent limits, predictable consequences, and supportive relationships with mentoring adults.
The Child Therapist will work closely with the TFCA team to support the child or young person in treatment to address problem behaviour and develop coping and social skills according to the TFCA
model requirements.
Skills required
Knowledge of Family systems theory and application.
Knowledge of Cognitive-behavioural therapy theory and application.
Knowledge of Social learning theory and child development.
Experience with a behavioural approach to treating troubled youth.
Experience treating children and adolescents.
Experience with the administrative components of treatments including case documentation.
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a treatment team.
Ability to work cooperatively with Program Supervisor to implement weekly treatment plan, accept supervision well, be readily available for supervision, attend meetings, complete assigned paperwork.
Knowledge and skills in ensuring the health and protection of children and young people, leadership, and management experience in this context
Knowledge of the Child Protection and out-of-home care system, standards, and practices.
In-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles and challenges of supporting vulnerable families.
An understanding of cultural contexts and the unique needs of Aboriginal children and young people.
Understanding of the broad range of issues impacting on the community services sector.
Good communication and organisational skills.
Effective network development skills.
Proficient use of the Microsoft suite, email and web based information systems

Essential
* Tertiary Qualification in, Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health, Counselling or Family Therapy
* Valid Full Australian Driving Licence (essential)
