Description Associate Research Fellow Fixed Term, full time appointment (2 years with the possibility of extension) Level A: $93,065 - $109,033 plus 17% superannuation The University of Wollongong’s School of Civil, Mining, Environmental and Architectural Engineering (CMEA) has a world-class reputation for excellence in research, innovative approaches to teaching and learning, and laboratories and workshop facilities that are among the best in Australia. We are seeking an Associate Research Fellow who will work on an NHMRC-funded e-ASIA JRP project focused on developing Artificial Intelligence-powered wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) models that predict key epidemiological indicators and inform the implementation and relaxation of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs). Working in collaboration with research partners in Japan and Indonesia, the project aims to create an online platform to support disease control efforts in low- and middle-income countries, such as Indonesia, where clinical surveillance capacity may be limited. This collaborative project is led by A/Professor Guangming Jiang, with investigators from Monash University, UNSW, University of Melbourne, and the Burnet Institute. The successful candidate will work closely with research partners and PhD students to collect and curate WBE and public health data, conduct advanced data analytics, and develop novel AI models. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research with direct public health applications. Our ideal candidate will possess a PhD in a field that aligns with wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE), artificial intelligence (AI), and public health data analytics: including a PhD in Environmental Engineering / Environmental Science / Data Science / Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning / Biostatistics / Applied Statistics or other related disciplines. They should have experience in AI applications for public health and environmental monitoring, public health data interpretation, statistical analysis, and epidemiological modelling.
