Role Purpose
As a Disability Support Worker at Better n Beyond, you will provide tailored, on-site support to individuals with disabilities, including those with mental health and high-care needs, promoting their well-being and independence. You will assist with personal care, daily living activities, and community engagement, ensuring clients achieve their NDIS plan goals. Through collaboration with families, management, and other stakeholders, you will help create an empowering environment for clients to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
Client Support
* Provide specialised support to client with mental health needs, including emotional support, routine assistance, emotional regulation strategies, and support with psychosocial recovery goals.
* Assist client with daily living activities such as personal care, meal preparation, medication prompts, household tasks, budgeting, shopping, and attending appointments while promoting independence and confidence.
* Deliver individualised, culturally appropriate support tailored to each client’s mental health recovery journey, personal goals, and NDIS support plan.
* Foster a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment that promotes emotional well-being, stability, and positive coping strategies.
* Follow Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans and trauma-informed practices to provide safe, respectful, and effective support for clients with behaviours of concern or psychosocial challenges.
* Encourage and support participation in community activities, social engagement, recreational programs, and skill-building opportunities to reduce social isolation and enhance independence.
* Monitor clients’ emotional and behavioural wellbeing, maintain accurate progress notes and incident reports, and communicate effectively with families, allied health professionals, and care teams where required.
Collaboration and Communication
* Liaise effectively with client, families, and other support staff to ensure coordinated and person-centered care.
* Collaborate with healthcare professionals, therapists, and stakeholders to address clients' holistic needs and facilitate their progress.
* Maintain open communication with management, embracing feedback and participating in regular reviews to optimize support services.
Administration and Compliance
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client interactions, progress, and incidents in compliance with Better n Beyond’s policies and procedures.
* Ensure adherence to the NDIS Code of Conduct, organisational guidelines, and all relevant legislative requirements.
Professional Development
* Participate in ongoing training and development to enhance skills and understanding of best practices in disability support, including high-care needs and NDIS standards.
* Embrace feedback for upskilling and applying new knowledge to daily responsibilities from management and care team.

Qualifications/skills/experiences
* NDIS worker screening is mandatory.
* Experience and knowledge in mental health support, psychosocial disabilities, and trauma-informed care would be highly desirable.
* Experience and Qualifications in Disability Support, Individual Support, Personal Care, Social Work, Humanitarian Services, or related fields (including current students).
* Flexibility to work a 24/7 rotating roster, including sleepovers, active night shifts, and both long and short shifts.
* Valid unrestricted driver’s license mandatory and experience driving accessible vehicles/vans desirable.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Positive, reliable, and responsible attitude, with a commitment to respecting client choices and promoting independence.
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
* Knowledge of NDIS safeguarding principles and best practices.
* This position is open to female support workers only, in line with the participant’s support preferences and care requirements.
Desirable:
* Experience supporting clients with mental health conditions, psychosocial disabilities, and complex behavioural needs.
* Holds an unrestricted NT driver’s licence and is confident supporting clients to attend appointments, community access activities, and social outings.
