About the role
Are you looking for a once in a generation role?? A role that's different, a project that you can tell your children and grandchildren that you were part of??
At TasNetworks, we're delivering the biggest transformation of Tasmania's transmission network in generations — and the North West Transmission Developments (NWTD) are right at the centre of it. To support this landmark program of works, we're seeking an experienced Specialist Project Engineer to help deliver safe, reliable and future-ready transmission infrastructure.
As our Specialist Project Engineer, you'll play a key role on the NWTD program, leading and coordinating secondary systems engineering across major new substations and network upgrades. Working closely with our delivery partners, you'll ensure best-practice engineering outcomes across protection, control and SCADA, while maintaining a strong understanding of how these systems integrate with primary plant. You'll be involved from early design through to construction and commissioning, before transitioning into asset support as works move into delivery.
The role will:
* Lead and coordinate the protection, control and SCADA scope across the NWTD and other major transmission projects, ensuring schedule, cost and quality targets are met
* Provide technical input and oversight across design, planning, environmental approvals, construction, testing, commissioning and handover
* Manage and report on engineering risks, quality requirements and project progress
* Work closely with Major Projects, Operations and Principal Contractors to manage interfaces and deliver key milestones
* Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and delivery partners, enabling clear communication and alignment across complex projects

* Strong knowledge of modern protection and control schemes
* The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining high engineering standards
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills — you can connect technical, commercial and delivery perspectives
