Overview
Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets. The project is a greenfield mining, process, material handling and ship loading project with a focus on sustaining production, minimise environmental impacts, strengthening long-term relationships with neighbouring communities, and fostering local economic development. The M&M Global Business unit has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.
Job Summary
In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project's mechanical aspects, where you will lead a mechanical team in the design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical systems, components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project's mechanical aspects are met.
Work arrangement
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.

Major Responsibilities
Plans and conducts independent mechanical work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of mechanical engineering techniques, procedures and criteria on a medium size project or assignment in support of a global business unit
Leads the design, development, modification and evaluation of mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management
Develops conceptual designs for mechanical engineering projects or projects having specialized or unique requirements
Supports preparation of estimates, staffing needs and schedules
Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting
Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data
Education And Experience Requirements
Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 13 - 15 years of relevant experience or 17 - 19 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods and materials in the mechanical discipline, and of engineering work planning and control methods.
Knowledge of precedents in the mechanical discipline and of principles, practices and interfaces with other engineering disciplines.
Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved.
Broad knowledge of industry / regulatory codes and standards (Australia) and design and/or layout criteria.
Knowledge of the application and coordination of 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools on a project.
Experience leading teams of mechanical engineers and designers providing technical aspects and support of supply chain lifecycle for a large number of equipment packages and/or contracts on a single project.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Holds Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) accreditation in Mechanical discipline.
Experience with the detailed design of Copper Concentrator projects, including the specification and design of various mechanical equipment types within.
Extensive experience with slurry pumping and slurry piping system design.
