 
        
        About the Role Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (WACHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation that aims to empower Aboriginal people to take control of their individual, family, and community health and wellbeing needs through our clinical and community programs. 
Our main services are in Wellington, Dubbo, Western Sydney, Penrith, Nepean, and Blue Mountains, and we provide outreach services to other towns and communities through our regional programs.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Dental Officer to join our multidisciplinary team at WACHS, committed to improving the oral health and overall wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. 
In this role, you will provide high-quality, culturally safe dental care to clients across all age groups, including diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and education. 
Working closely with Aboriginal Health Workers, and other clinical staff, you will deliver both chairside and outreach services aimed at reducing oral health disparities and promoting positive long-term outcomes.

Key responsibilities Comply with policies and guidelines relevant to the provision of patient care and treat patients and other staff with courtesy and respect at all times. 
Provide a high standard of general oral health care, to allocated patients, including provision of a treatment plan for each patient under your care, including patients with more complex treatment needs. 
Informed consent must be obtained prior to the commencement of treatment. 
Seek advice from senior clinicians, when appropriate, to assist in the development of patient treatment plans and refer patients for specialist management/consultation, when appropriate. 
Take overall responsibility, and adopt a team approach, for the management of each patient allocated to you, including care by other clinicians to whom you have referred the patient e.g. Specialists, Oral Health Therapists and Dental Prosthetists, as required. 
Actively participate in oral health promotion activities and preventive programs and educate patients under your care on practices to maintain good oral health. 
Document all information relevant to the treatment of each patient under your care in the patient's dental record and reappoint your patients making the most efficient use of your clinical time and utilise interpreter services, as required. 
Maintain a high standard of infection control in accordance with Australian Dental Association and Dental Board of Australia guidelines and NSW health standards and Oral Health Infection Control Policies, including compliance with correct use of Personal Protective Equipment, correct disposal of waste and hand hygiene. 
Attend Department and Unit meetings and participate in personal and career development programs as identified in your performance development agreement. 
Selection Criteria Sound clinical knowledge in general dentistry, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position. 
Evidence of continuing education in Dentistry and self-monitoring/audit practices that support credentialing to the position and are commensurate with the scope of practice requirements for the position. 
High level interpersonal and communication skills 
Demonstrates the skill and attitudes appropriate for practice as a senior dental officer 
Mandatory compliance requirements of the position Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Dentist 
Compliance with NSW Health Category A Vaccination requirements.
