For more than 75 years the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) has managed the training and continuing professional education of orthopaedic surgeons in Australia.

We are seeking a part-time (0.4fte) eLearning Officer to join the Education & Training team, based in Sydney.

The opportunity:

This role will primarily be responsible for the Moodle-based AOA 21 Learning Management System (LMS) which houses educational modules for both Trainees and Members.

This links with maintaining Education & Training information more generally, including on the website, as AOA moves to ensure one source of truth for all Education & Training materials.

We are seeking someone to effectively maintain and develop accurate and engaging Learning Management System resources that support effective learning for AOA Trainees and Members, and to monitor and coordinate website changes, ensuring education and training-related information is an accurate and reliable source for all stakeholders.

Writing, editing and document management skills will be essential, along with strong technical proficiency.

This position would suit a person with publishing, development and/or design capability who can ensure our learning materials are engaging and effective.

Key Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities of the eLearning Officer will include the following:


• Maintain and update Education and Training sites within the Learning Management System (LMS) to ensure learner resources are accurate and engaging


• Draft, edit and format user guides to support member education for the online platform (Salesforce) which houses the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program and Trainee Information Management System (TIMS)


• Monitor, review and coordinate publishing of education and training related content for the AOA website, ensuring information is accurate, up-to-date and user-friendly


• Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop engaging LMS and website content, with a continuous improvement focus


• Support Education and Training staff to develop and format high-quality written resources, including forms, member communications and procedure manuals


• Liaise with the Communications team to publish all relevant website updates and member communications


• Provide support to the Manager, CPD, Learning Delivery and Policy; National Education & Training Manager; Senior Education and Training Officer, and other members of the E&T team, as required


• Administer relevant projects, as directed

Knowledge and Skills:


• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite


• Ability to design engaging, learner-centred content


• Understanding of adult learning principles


• Familiarity with publishing or graphic design tools, including Adobe Acrobat Professional


• Demonstrated experience in administering content management of Learning Management System platforms (e.g. Moodle)


• Proficiency with eLearning authoring tools (e.g. Captivate, Articulate)


• Experience with video and/or audio editing


• Exceptional writing, editing and document management capabilities


• Ability to prioritise and manage time whilst working to deadlines


• Ability to administer programs and processes according to policy


• Impeccable attention to detail and a high level of accuracy


• Strong relationship-building skills


• Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to respond quickly to key stakeholder needs

Desirable experience and qualifications may include:


• Relevant tertiary qualifications in adult learning and/or design or publishing


• Experience converting face-to-face training into digital formats


• Experience in working with subject matter experts to develop learning content


• Administration experience, preferably in a medical, health and/or education field

An honest, reliable, flexible self-starter, with the ability to work unsupervised is being sought. Very occasional attendance at evening meetings and/or travel to conferences may be required.
