Your new role
As General Counsel, you will be responsible for developing policies, plans and objectives regarding legal affairs and services to the company's Australian business. You will lead the legal team in implementing and achieving these objectives in order to ensure that the organisation has best-practice legal risk minimisation strategies in place to support a sustainable business, while ensuring that the company's legal and compliance obligations are met. This includes providing strategic input into corporate governance frameworks, enterprise risk management, insurance matters, ethics programs, compliance and sustainability.
You will be responsible for driving a high-performance legal team and creating an environment that drives engagement and collaboration with business stakeholders. Additionally, you will manage the legal budget and optimise external resources to deliver value and efficiency.
What you'll need to succeed
You must be a holder of an unrestricted Australian practising certificate and be admitted to practice in Victoria. You will have a minimum of 12 years PAE as a generalist commercial lawyer in another in-house setting, which will include previous experience in corporate governance, risk and compliance matters.
In addition to strong commercial legal skills, you will be an experienced people leader who fosters an engaged and collaborative team environment by empowering team members to take ownership of matters with autonomy, while also supporting capability growth and skills development.
