About us

Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission. Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the 'Courts Group'.

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is the first level of the Victorian court system and is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria. It has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 locations, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.

About the role

Play a key role in the daily operations of Victoria's courts and contribute to the delivery of accessible, fair, and efficient justice.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Registrar to join the team in Shepparton. This is a dynamic and multifaceted role that supports the effective functioning of the court through a mix of administrative, client-facing, and in-court responsibilities.

As a Registrar, you will:

* Perform a range of legal, administrative, and quasi-judicial functions across various court jurisdictions, including Civil, Criminal, Family Violence, and Children's Court.
* Provide authoritative advice to court users on procedures, practices, and protocols.
* Exercise powers under the Magistrates' Court Act 1989 and other relevant legislation.
* Manage and support small teams, including Trainee Registrars, and contribute to staff development and performance.
* Operate court systems and technologies, including Courtlink, CMS, and video conferencing tools.
* Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures that enhance court operations.
* Represent the court in forums and committees, and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including the judiciary, legal professionals, police, and community agencies.

About you

You are a confident and capable professional with:

* Certificate IV in Government (Court Services) or equivalent qualification is required.
* Demonstrated knowledge of Victorian courts, tribunals, and relevant legislation.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
* Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
* A commitment to service excellence, integrity, and continuous improvement.
