About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Safety and Compliance Officer to lead the delivery of safety initiatives and regulatory compliance across our Victorian and South Australian transport operations. You will play a key role in maintaining and improving our Safety Management System (SMS), supporting internal audits, managing incidents, and liaising with government and regulatory stakeholders.
This position ensures adherence to Victorian and South Australian transport legislation, child safety standards, and contract requirements while fostering a proactive safety culture among staff.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee and maintain the Safety Management System (SMS) and compliance registers
* Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments across sites and services
* Lead investigations into incidents, implementing corrective actions
* Monitor and interpret regulatory changes (e.g., Bus Safety Act, Chain of Responsibility)
* Maintain operator accreditation and training records
* Support internal and external audit readiness
* Promote and uphold Child Safe Standards and reporting obligations across jurisdictions
You'll Work Closely With
* Internal: Managing Director, Operations Team, Drivers, Fleet and Workshop Staff
* External: Transport Authorities, WorkSafe, Schools, and Child safety agencies
What You'll Bring
Essential:
* Experience in safety, compliance, or transport operations
* Strong attention to detail with excellent documentation and reporting skills
* Confident communicator with excellent interpersonal abilities
* Competency in Microsoft Office and safety/compliance platforms
Desirable:
* Qualifications in WHS, Risk Management, or Transport
* Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (WHS)
* Understanding of the Child Wellbeing and Safety Act and Children and Young People (Safety) Act
* Knowledge of transport legislation, including Chain of Responsibility
Additional Requirements
* Valid Victorian Driver's Licence (MR/HR preferred)
* Driver Accreditation / CPVV
* Ability to obtain a National Police Check and Working with Children Check (Victoria)
* Willingness to travel between operational sites in Victoria and South Australia
* Commitment to child safety and mandatory reporting obligations
