Mark Butler MP, Minister for Health and Aged Care, announced the appointment of Professor Jenny May AM as Australia's National Rural Health Commissioner.
Jenny commenced in January, creating this exciting opportunity for a new leader.This position will oversee the leadership and management of the Department, promoting a clear vision and strategic direction.
Collaboration with stakeholders within the College, University, Local Health Districts, and external organizations will be essential in developing education and research programs.Reporting to the Pro Vice Chancellor, College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing, the Director will provide academic leadership, fostering excellence in teaching, research, and professional activities.
The role may be based in Tamworth or Taree and requires a visible presence across seven locations.The PersonYou will have:PhD or equivalent in a health discipline.Understanding of medical workforce needs and a commitment to rural and regional health education and workforce development.Experience in rural health education, training, research, securing funding, and disseminating findings.Experience in Indigenous health education and research.A commitment to improving access to quality health services for rural, remote, and Indigenous Australians.Knowledge of government policies related to rural health.Proven ability to develop collaborative relationships within academia and with strategic partners.Management and strategic planning skills, including resource management and effective collaboration with professional, government, and industry organizations.Knowledge of workplace obligations and experience promoting a safe, equitable, diverse, and respectful workplace.The University of Newcastle is an equal opportunity employer committed to equity, diversity, and social inclusion.
