About the Role
Cryptographic Services Technical Lead – responsible for leading architecture, design, and delivery of enterprise Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Hardware Security Module (HSM) services. This role provides end‑to‑end technical leadership across certificate services, trust models, cryptographic key protection, and certificate status and revocation services, forming the cryptographic foundation for identity, authentication, and application platforms.
Responsibilities
* Owning the end‑to‑end technical delivery of PKI, HSM, and cryptographic services.
* Defining and governing the target‑state cryptographic architecture, including trust hierarchies, key protection models, and availability patterns.
* Acting as the primary client‑facing technical authority for cryptographic design decisions.
* Leading solution architecture and detailed technical design across:
o Certificate Authorities (root, intermediate, issuing)
o Certificate lifecycle management (enrolment, renewal, revocation)
o Trust store and certificate distribution patterns
o OCSP responder and revocation infrastructure design, including high‑availability and low‑latency OCSP architectures, integration with issuing CAs and certificate profiles, OCSP signing key protection and lifecycle management, resilience, caching, and operational considerations
o Cryptographic key generation, storage, usage, and lifecycle management
* Leading PKI platform implementation, including X.509 certificate profiles and policy definition, automated certificate enrolment and renewal workflows, and integration with identity, authentication, and application platforms.
* Leading HSM architecture and implementation, including secure key storage and hardware‑backed cryptographic operations, HSM partitioning, role‑based access control, dual control, key backup, recovery, and high‑availability patterns.
* Defining and enforcing secure build, deployment, and operating standards for cryptographic services.
* Providing hands‑on technical leadership to PKI and HSM engineers and testers.
* Managing cryptographic risks, cross‑platform dependencies, and operational failure modes.
* Producing and approving architectural artefacts, cryptographic design documentation, and operational handover material.
Qualifications
* 10+ years’ experience in PKI, cryptography, or security architecture roles.
* Hands‑on experience delivering enterprise PKI platforms, ideally Jellyfish or equivalent large‑scale PKI solutions.
* Hands‑on experience with HSM platforms, such as Thales Luna 7 or equivalent enterprise HSMs.
* Proven experience designing and operating OCSP responder infrastructure in production environments.
* Strong understanding of certificate lifecycle management, revocation models, and trust distribution.
* Proven experience leading cryptographic or security platform delivery teams.
* Ability to engage senior stakeholders and provide authoritative technical guidance.
* Experience operating in regulated or security‑sensitive environments.
