Refrigeration Engineer – City Building Engineering Services (CBES)
Job Purpose
This key position carries out planned and reactive maintenance across several site locations, providing first‑line service and repair of refrigeration equipment and assisting HVAC equipment with refrigeration circuits. Engineering teams offer 24‑hour service coverage throughout the year, including planned and extended working hours and participation in standby rota procedures.
Key Accountabilities
- Prioritise maintenance and repair work to meet agreed timescales and response times.
- Identify non‑repairable faults, advise the line manager, and recommend suitable replacements.
- Ensure PPM schedules are completed on time and that all required paperwork is accurate and up to date.
- Maintain all technical and compliance documentation.
- Participate in an out‑of‑hours standby rota and manage cover arrangements in case of holidays or unforeseen circumstances.
- Stay aware of applicable regulations and codes of practice.
- Order, fit, and test parts or components following company procedures.
- Notify the company helpdesk of procedural task status when work ceases.
- Inform GSMs of repair, maintenance, and installation issues that could affect store operations, building rapport and partnership.
- Respond promptly to service call requests from the helpdesk, assess job requirements, and carry out repairs as needed.
- Conduct surveys and complete reports as required by the refrigeration supervisor (RFM).
- Complete all work to the highest standards efficiently and cost‑effectively, complying with the company Health and Safety policy.
- Carry out all tasks within the allotted time and to the satisfaction of the company and client.
- Use written, verbal communication, and record‑keeping procedures professionally.
- Attend required training courses and keep skills current with technical and business developments.
- Complete all mandatory Evolve online training modules.
- Comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act and the company’s Health and Safety Policy.
- Collaborate with company and ASDA colleagues to uphold quality standards.
- Represent the company professionally and foster good relationships with City and ASDA colleagues.
- Respond to any reasonable request or instruction from the City Management Team.

- Suitable Maths & English qualification

- NVQ/C&G; Refrigeration Based Qualification
- Approved Training Program
- Refrigerant Handling C&G; 2079 or equivalent CITB certificate
- Skill Card
- Refrigeration, Electrical, Air Conditioning & Mechanical knowledge
- Equipment Diagnostic Skills
- Equipment Repair Skills
- Positive communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to work at heights
- Competent in the use of access equipment
- Current full driving licence (essential)
