The Federal Director leads the Liberal Party of Australia’s Federal Secretariat and is responsible for the planning and execution of federal election campaigns.
The role sets the strategic direction, drives operational discipline, and ensures the organisation is always campaign ready. It brings together the Federal Secretariat, State and Territory divisions, and the Parliamentary team under a single, coordinated national effort in federal elections.
Reporting to the Federal Executive and working closely with the Federal President, the Federal Director holds overall responsibility for campaign delivery, organisational performance, compliance, and financial management.
Key responsibilities include:
CAMPAIGN LEADERSHIP
* Direct the federal election campaign end to end
* Set national strategy, targeting, and resource allocation
* Coordinate field, digital, data, media, and fundraising operations
* Enforce campaign standards across all divisions
* Provide regular campaign readiness reports to Federal Executive and Parliamentary Leadership
ORGANISATIONAL LEADERSHIP
* Lead the Federal Secretariat and set operating cadence
* Drive coordination with State and Territory divisions
* Chair national planning and coordination forums
* Set performance expectations and hold teams to account
GOVERNANCE AND COMPLIANCE
* Ensure compliance with the Commonwealth Electoral Act and all regulatory obligations
* Maintain audit-ready systems and records across all federal entities
* Support the Audit and Governance Committee with reporting and risk management
* Enforce conflict of interest, disclosure, and data integrity standards
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
* Oversee national budgets, cash flow, and financial risk
* Manage a multi-million-dollar business
* Approve major expenditure and funding allocations
* Set fundraising strategy and monitor performance against targets
* Ensure financial reporting meets Australian Accounting Standards
STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT
* Work closely with the Leader, Shadow Cabinet, and Parliamentary teams
* Engage Federal Executive, committees, and donors
* Represent the organisation with regulators, including the Australian Electoral Commission
* Manage relationships with key external partners and service providers
OPERATIONAL CONTROL
* Direct national systems, digital, data, and infrastructure
* Ensure high-quality voter contact programs and data use
* Maintain crisis response capability
* Drive continuous improvement in campaign tools and processes
This role is well suited to a senior executive with a deep interest in Australian politics with a proven track record of organisational leadership, campaign delivery and management excellence. The following capabilities are crucial:
* Proven campaign leadership at national or large-state level
* Data-driven decision making and performance management
* Experience leading advanced and innovative digital and data campaigns
* Strong grasp of electoral law, compliance, and funding regimes
* Financial management at scale, including budgeting and risk control
* Ability to operate under pressure and deliver to fixed electoral timelines
* High-level stakeholder management and political judgement
The successful applicant will have extensive senior leadership experience in political, campaign, or comparable environments, demonstrated success leading complex, multi-jurisdiction operations and experience with regulatory compliance and financial governance frameworks.
The role is based in Canberra. It is a full‑time position with significant travel and extended hours required, particularly during campaign periods.
