Join WSP's growing national Ecology team and step into a role where your botanical expertise helps shape major natural resource and infrastructure projects across Queensland and Australia. As a Senior Botanist, you'll work across diverse ecosystems, from coastal environments to rainforests and everything in between, and contribute to high‐quality ecological assessment, planning, and conservation outcomes.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about flora identification, protected plant surveys, Regional Ecosystem (RE) assessments to species level identification, and ecological consulting. You'll lead field programs, guide junior scientists, and work with a supportive team of vegetation specialists to deliver best‐practice ecological outcomes.
What You'll Do
* Lead and deliver flora surveys, protected plant flora surveys, Regional Ecosystem verification, marine plant surveys and general flora survey inventories across a wide range of Queensland bioregions.
* Lead and conduct ecological field surveys, environmental analyses, vegetation mapping, and species‐level botanical identification, including specimen collection for herbarium ID.
* Work on interstate projects across Australia.
* Prepare and review technical ecological reports, tenders, and species management documentation.
* Project manage ecological projects of varying scale and complexity, ensuring strong technical quality and leadership, in line with budgetary expectations.
* Build client relationships while supporting new opportunities and expanding our ecology portfolio.
* Mentor and support the development of junior botanists and ecologists.
About You
You are a passionate botanist or ecologist with strong flora identification skills and substantial field experience. You will likely bring:
* A degree in Biology, Botany, Environmental Science, Ecology, or similar.
* At least 7 years' experience in biodiversity assessments, flora surveys, offsets, or ecological consulting.
* Advanced skills in plant species identification, regional ecosystem verification, threatened ecological community verification, BioCondition surveys, and vegetation community classification.
* Experience with GIS, digital tablet field mapping, and spatial dataset management (desirable).
* Knowledge of Queensland regulatory frameworks for protected plants and vegetation management.
* A collaborative, solutions‐focused mindset and genuine passion for biodiversity and conservation.
