Mental Health Nurse – Primary Health Services (Full Time & Part Time)

Location & Compensation
Western Plains Correctional Centre, Anakie VIC 3212. Base salary approx. $109K per annum for full‐time (pro‐rated for part‐time), plus loadings, shift and weekend allowances, annual increments and extensive leave benefits.
About the Role
GEO Healthcare provides primary healthcare to men in public prisons across Victoria. Primary Mental Health Nurses deliver high‐quality mental health care, preventing and managing self‐harm or suicidal risk with evidence‐based nursing practice within the prison setting.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide primary mental health nursing services to prisoners.
* Conduct at‐risk assessments within specified timeframes for inmates identified as at risk of self‐harm or suicide.
* Operate primary mental health nurse clinics, assessing patients, reviewing treatment plans and discussing ongoing care.
* Offer primary mental health consultancy to nursing staff and other service providers.
* Participate in clinical handover meetings within the health team.
* Document all patient occasions of service, declines, non‐attendance and appointments in the electronic medical record, maintaining confidentiality.
* Collaborate with the Forensic Mental Health (FMH) Service Provider in assessment and management of complex cases.
* Refer patients to FMH for specialist assessment and manage FMH outreach wait‐list.
Qualifications & Experience
* Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing or Master of Mental Health Nursing.
* Minimum 12 months of experience in mental health within the past 3 years.
* Ability to work unsupervised in the delivery of primary mental health services.
Other Requirements
* Work within a prison setting, direct contact with inmates.
* Successful National Criminal History Check.
* Maintain security clearance.
* Work outside ordinary business hours may be required.
* Onsite working only (no hybrid or remote).
