Primary objective
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the position provides strategic leadership and financial advice to support the
Department of Logistics and Infrastructure in achieving its objectives within the Northern Territory Government's financial
management framework. The role ensures sound financial governance, integrity of financial information, and delivery of
high-quality accounting, taxation and business services.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead and manage the Finance and Business Services function, providing strategic direction, governance oversight, and
operational leadership.
2. Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial information, including reconciliations, statutory reporting,
internal reporting, and other reporting as required.
3. Provide high level strategic and technical advice on complex financial, accounting and taxation matters to the CFO,
Executive and senior managers.
4. Maintain and uplift internal controls and financial risk management, including compliance with accounting standards,
financial legislation, and NTG policies.
5. Manage key stakeholder relationships, including central agencies, other government entities, auditors, and external
advisors, and represent the department on inter-agency financial and taxation forums.
6. Oversight general office services, property maintenance, building security, and vehicle fleet management.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Extensive experience in financial management, accounting and/or taxation, with demonstrated expertise in application
of accounting standards and financial legislation.
2. Proven ability to lead and develop multidisciplinary teams, driving performance, capability development, engagement and
wellbeing to deliver high-quality services.
3. Highly developed analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial information and
provide sound, risk-informed strategic advice to executive stakeholders.
4. Demonstrated experience in high-level negotiation, influencing and dispute resolution.
5. Highly developed communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical matters to executive,
ministerial and non-technical audiences.
6. Demonstrated capacity to develop practical, innovative solutions and lead continuous improvement and change.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in accounting, commerce, business, or a related discipline; full membership of a recognised
professional accounting body.
2. Experience working in the Northern Territory Public Sector or equivalent government entity.
